Join a creative and collaborative team helping to tell the Excelsior College story! We are looking for an experienced content manager to lead our web experience.

Excelsior College, a regionally accredited, virtual, private, nonprofit institution of higher learning is seeking dynamic applicants for the position of Web Content Manager in the Marketing unit.


The Web Content Manager leads efforts to define, communication and execute editorial and consumer engagement strategy for Excelsior.edu. The Web Content Manager creates, improves, and maintains web content that supports the student journey from discovery through advocacy. He/she will increase engagement throughout the lifecycle of users to help drive inquiries, conversion, retention, and advocacy. The Web Content Manager will develop strategies and implement learning mechanisms to measure and capitalize on user demand.

The ideal candidate for this role possesses exceptional writing and editorial skills, a strong command of content marketing strategy, fluency in SEO best practices and the ability to translate website analytics into actionable recommendations to improve user experience and increase online conversions. This is a full-time position based in Albany, NY.


  • Develop a content marketing plan that aligns with the College's strategic objectives in collaboration with key stakeholders throughout the organization.
  • Design, implement and maintain a content taxonomy/information architecture that provides structure for content creation.
  • Work with the Director of Marketing and Digital Strategy to define and uphold a web governance that maintains quality, brand-alignment, and accuracy of Excelsior College's web properties.
  • Conduct regular content audits to ensure quality, brand-alignment, and accuracy of Excelsior College's web properties.
  • Work closely with the Digital Media Analyst to identify traffic and engagement trends that provide opportunities capitalize on and improve existing content.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Automation Specialist to leverage marketing automation to provide personalized web experiences for students.
  • Work with the Marketing Managers assigned to the College's business and academic units to offer ongoing content marketing consultation.
  • Provide guidance and training to content contributors across the organization on best practices for web writing.
  • Ensure all web content is on-brand, consistent in style, quality, and tone of voice, and optimized for search and user experience.
  • Leverage market data to develop content ideas that drive deeper user engagement and stronger brand preference.
  • Establish key performance indicators that enable the college to track user engagement levels with Excelsior's content across the entire journey.
  • Develop behavior-based personas based on currently identified and emerging target markets at each stage of the funnel.
  • Perform ongoing keyword research including discovery and expansion of keyword opportunities for search engine optimization (SEO).
  • Research and implement content recommendations for organic SEO success.


  • BA/BS in Marketing, Communications, or related discipline from a regionally accredited institution required
  • 3+ years of specialized experience working in the digital space with 2+ years managing content marketing efforts across multiple channels
  • Strong foundation in marketing campaign strategy, content marketing, brand strategy, public relations, SEO/SEM, social media, blogging, multimedia and performance measurement.
  • An established track record in creating successful marketing content from start to finish.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for storytelling and sticky content
  • Strong project management skills and experience working successfully with cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated proficiency in making content adjustments based upon measurable data resulting in genuine purpose and relevancy
  • Strong editing and proofreading skills
  • Excellent communication skills
