ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, MIDDLE EAST CENTER
Duties: Working closely with the Center Director, the Associate Director administers federal grants and fellowships, prepares reports and grant proposals, oversees the daily operations of the Middle East Center, supervises staff members, monitors budgets to ensure the expenditures occur according to the proposed budget. The Associate Director oversees and manages outreach activities, including but not limited to teacher training workshops, collaborating with other Penn centers, departments, and entities, and working with community partners and with counterparts at other universities, as appropriate. The Associate Director plans and manages Center's academic events and works with the affiliated faculty on co-sponsored events, establishes internal and external linkages as required by federal grants, and assists the Director in the administration of the Modern Middle East Studies program.
Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree and 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to work in a fast paced environment and to catch up with moving deadlines, and attention to details are required. Event planning experience, flexibility to work occasional weekends and evenings, ability to manage multiple projects, and strong Apple computer proficiency including: MS Word, Excel, and Power Point are required. Respect for confidentiality is essential. A Bachelor's degree in area studies, previous experience in teacher training programs, work in a university setting, and proficiency in a modern M. Eastern language is preferred.
