Required Qualifications: As per Civil Service Guidelines. Must have taken and passed the specific job related Civil Service exam and be reachable on the appropriate Civil Service list. The Civil Service list for this position might provide insufficient acceptors, therefore, a provisional appointment will be made. Any provisional appointee will be required to take, pass and be reachable on the next Civil Service examination to be permanently appointed. 70.1 Transfers are encouraged to apply. 70.1 Transfer Candidates must have been appointed from a Civil Service List and have served permanently in an appropriate title(s) for one year. Transfers must be within two salary grades.

Brief Description of Duties: The Incumbent will be working at the School of Dental Medicine Dental Care Center performing complicated clerical activities using mathematical calculation in the service of agency or program functions. These activities may include collecting money from patients in the form of cash, check, credit card or insurance and providing receipts. Creating spreadsheets, using calculators, and other means of performing calculations. The position's duties may incorporate, but are not limited to, financial (including record-keeping, bookkeeping, and reconciliation activities), purchasing, or statistical functions

  • Receive and record patient payments, make changes and issue receipts. Post patient credit payments that are phoned in and/or mailed in.
  • Examine checks received to insure that they are properly prepared. Post checks from the mail pick-up and any insurance checks from the insurance companies, Medicaid, Healthplex and Doral.
  • Daily reconcile transactions and money received, report transaction by category (cash, check or charge payment), make out bank deposit slips and receipts to designated employee. Examine money for counterfeits.
  • On a daily basis, verify Medicaid eligibility of Medicaid cards presented by patients through EMEV’S (computer science Corp-state facility in Albany). Prepare predetermination that are needed for any insurance (e.g. Healthplex or private insurance).
  • Run/process status determination and unallocated payments reports on a monthly basis. Scan documents that are related to the cashiers functions (Medicaid cards or other paperwork).
  • Address patient concerns regarding account or insurance. Contact patients regarding outstanding account balances.

Special Notes: This is a full-time position, 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Mandatory rehire roster candidates have preference.
