Sinai Health System and the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto are inviting applications for a Chief, Department of Emergency Medicine. The successful candidate should have, or be eligible for, a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. The effective start date is February 1, 2018 or shortly thereafter.

Sinai Health System ("SHS"), a full affiliate of the University of Toronto, is an academic hospital comprised of Mount Sinai Hospital, Bridgepoint Active Healthcare, Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute and Circle of Care - working together to create a premier exemplar of an integrated health system. SHS combines acute care, complex and rehabilitative care, primary care, home care, and other community-based services to create an innovative and integrated continuum of care, meeting the needs of complex patients.

The Chief leads the Department of Emergency Medicine of Sinai Health System, within which is housed the Schwartz Reisman Emergency Medicine Institute. It comprises 29 physician faculty members, all certified in Emergency Medicine, and members of the University of Toronto Department of Family and Community Medicine. Reporting to the President and CEO, the Chief is responsible for leading the Department in achieving operational goals and for excellence in clinical care, education, and research. He/she is responsible for developing and implementing a vision and strategic plan for the Department in alignment with the Hospital's Strategy Overview. He/she will develop and support new innovations that provide evidence based care and new knowledge across the System. He/she will lead the Department as the Hospital carries out major space renovations in the Department over the next five years.

The successful candidate must hold an MD degree, have or be eligible for licensure in Ontario, and hold advanced certification in Emergency Medicine from either the RCPS(C) or the College of Family Physicians of Canada. He/she will be a visionary with superior leadership qualities, excellence in education; and have a proven track record and/or commitment to research. He/she will have demonstrated ability to create and maintain a workplace and learning environment that is equitable, respectful and safe for all staff, trainees and patients.

Remuneration will be in the range of $200,000 or above, not including clinical income, and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position is for a five year term, renewable once.
