Job Description

The adjunct faculty will work with students in the dental hygiene clinic at Johnson County Community College. The adjunct faculty will be responsible for mentoring and guiding students with their clinical skills, decision making, problem solving and skills while treating patients in the clinic. Additionally, the faculty will evaluate student performance on competencies as well as their abiilty to perform patient assessment, develop personalized patient centered oral hygiene instruction and goals, determine appropriate treatment planning, implement comprehensive treatment, and evaluate the outcomes of that treatment. The faculty will be required to study the grading system of JCCC dental hygiene, participate in calibration sessions, and attend necessary meetings when needed.

Required Skills

Minimum:
  • Adjunct Clinical Faculty (assists faculty with student instruction in clinical/lab/and/or simulation under the direct supervision of Dental Hygiene Full time faculty).
  • Associates Degree in Dental Hygiene
  • Eligibility for licensure in the state of Kansas
  • Local Anesthesia and Nitrous Oxide Certification in the state of Kansas
  • Three (3) years clinical practice
  • Or - Enrolled in a Bachelor Completion Program with a course in methodology concepts.
  • Desire to mentor/teach clinical skills to dental hygiene students.

Preferred:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Dental Hygiene or related field with a course in educational methodology concepts
  • Eligibility for dental hygiene licensure in the state of Kansas
  • Local Anesthesia and Nitrous Oxide Certification in the state of Kansas
  • Two years of teaching and/or classroom experience in dental hygiene
  • Current/Recent clinical practice in the dental hygiene field. Ability to teach dental hygiene skills to students in clinical setting


Required Experience

Minimum of 3 years clinical dental hygiene practice experience

Preferred: Two years of clinical teaching/and/or classroom experience in dental hygiene
