The University of Vermont, Robert Larner, MD, College of Medicine and the University of Vermont Medical Center are seeking a full-time faculty member at the Assistant or Associate Professor level on the clinical scholar pathway to provide emergency psychiatry treatment and training at the University of Vermont Medical Center and the Howard Center.

This attending psychiatrist will serve as the medical director of the Crisis Service of Chittenden County (CSCC), an emergency mental health program jointly staffed by the University of Vermont Medical Center and the Howard Center, a large human services and community mental health agency in Chittenden County. The CSCC comprises a team of clinicians who provide immediate assessment of patients who present urgently to the Emergency Department or the Howard Center.

The University of Vermont, Robert Larner, MD, College of Medicine, Psychiatry Service hosts medical students on clerkships and electives, sponsors a residency in psychiatry, and sponsors a fellowship in child psychiatry. This faculty member will be a key participant in the education of trainees at several levels and will assume primary responsibility for training in emergency psychiatry.

The selected candidate will demonstrate the training and expertise to provide direct patient care, collaborate with other professional disciplines, and work with referring agencies and providers. In addition, he or she will be responsible for supervision and teaching of house officers, medical students, and other staff. An appreciation of the importance of and satisfaction from performing these critical functions and an ability to work collaboratively are essential.

Applicants must have a medical degree and be board certified (preferably) or board eligible in psychiatry. Formal training in emergency psychiatry or suitable experience is very desirable.
