Nature of Work:
The communications specialist provides operational support for presidential communications by developing talking points, quotes for various uses, and presentations. The specialist will liaison with the president’s chief of staff to produce tactical, current and proactive communications for the office of the president.
The communications specialist (media) assists in developing, writing and distributing of news content, features, press releases, web content, customized content for social media channels, event coverage and other internal and external communication. This person is able to tell engaging and quality stories effectively; produce high levels of quality work; juggle multiple high-priority projects; and develop and execute successful mainstream media strategies. The role develops and optimizes relationships with media locally, in Georgia and nationally.
The specialist will serve as the liaison with the Richards College of Business and the Honors College, helping publish content for both colleges. Management of a graduate assistant and supervision of one to two student interns also is involved.

Required Qualifications:
The communication specialist (media) role requires a bachelor’s degree in journalism, mass communication, public relations or English and at least two years of experience in journalism, public relations or a similar media position. Strong writing, planning and strategy, project management and organization skills are required, along with the ability to meet strict deadlines. Candidates must be self-starters with demonstrated abilities to handle projects from start to finish and must be dependable, efficient and effective, able to multitask and pay close attention to details. Candidates also must be proficient in AP style.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in higher education is preferred, along with demonstrated knowledge in writing and editing for multiple communication channels (print, digital, social), strong personal computer skills, and the and meet ability to work closely with multiple constituencies, including faculty, staff, students, alumni and business and community representatives.

Salary    $19.18 minimum - $25.07 midpoint

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
Must network with campus facility, staff and students regularly. Occasional local travel and after-hours/weekend work is required.
