Electrician, Team Lead



I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

The Electrician, Team Lead position is a part of the Facilities Services team, within the Division of Operations at the George Washington University. Facilities Services is searching for a Electrician, Team Lead to assist the Supervisor with a variety of supervisory and administrative responsibilities. The Team Lead will be well trained, highly organized professional who takes pride in their work and can perform various customer service duties as required throughout the day.

The desired candidate is a professional with a flexible schedule available for on-call duty and weekends as needed. The Team Lead will assist with the assignment and coordination and /or execution of activities within the shop and report to the Electrical Supervisor.

The Team Lead is responsible for:
• Maintains repairs and installs wiring and lighting systems in and around building, power appliances, electrical machinery and equipment according to written work request.
• Maintains proper safety precautions and performs work according to District of Columbia and National Electrical Codes.
• Assigns, supervises, and inspects work done by electricians involved in the maintenance and repairs of the electrical systems and equipment on large jobs as directed by the shop supervisor and electrical manager and insures that this work is performed according to proper regulations and safety precautions.
• Assists Electrical Supervisor in estimating the manpower and ordering of materials necessary to complete job orders.
Team Lead duties as required: including outage coverage.
• Assists with preparation of weekly work schedules, prioritization and distribution of work including service calls and preventive maintenance. In the absence of supervisor, Lead will provide supervision formally.
• Ensures materials and supplies are available for staff, such as tools, equipment, and replacement parts.
• Provides training, mentoring and feedback to staff within the unit including on the job and also by providing feedback to the annual performance evaluation process
• Provides quality assurance and adherence to safety regulations
• Conducts inspections and provide recommendations
• May serve as primary point of contact for contracts or projects as requested
• Serve as departmental representative in meetings or projects as requested
• Inspects and monitor work areas, examine tools and equipment, and provide employee safety training to prevent, detect, and correct unsafe conditions or violations of procedure and safety rules
• Performs other work related duties as requested. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 3 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to conduct him or herself in a professional manner and provide excellent customer service

Proficiency with computers and other electronic devices

Knowledge of safe work practices based on industry standards, injury, and illness prevention practices is preferred.

Ability to prepare sketches for minor construction project is preferred.

Ability to prepare written correspondence to federal, state and local agencies is preferred.

Ability to understand and interpret electrical diagrams and documents.

Ability to utilize and manage work orders tickets using AIM.
