Carpenter, Team Lead


Job Description Summary:

The Division of Operations, Facilities Maintenance Carpentry Shop is seeking a experienced tradesperson to take on the role of a Carpenter, Team Lead. The Team Lead will assist the Supervisor with day to day operations. The work Schedule is Monday - Friday from 7:00 to 4:00 pm. The Lead will be well trained, highly organized and a professional who takes pride in his/her work and can perform various customer service duties as required throughout the day. The desired candidate can work a flexible work schedule and available for on-call duty and weekend work as needed. The Team Lead assists with the assignment and coordination and/or execution of activities within the shop and possesses the ability to walk, stand, sit, and perform repetitive duties. The candidate will report to the Carpenter Supervisor.
The Carpenter, Team Lead is responsible for:
• Performs rough and finished carpentry work in making and repairing items and structures and to supervise, assign, and assist in carpentry duties on large jobs as directed.
• Builds, restores, and repairs doors, partitions, and walls in remodeling and altering buildings and offices according to written job orders, blue prints, and sketches.
• Builds repairs, finishes, and refinishes cabinets, bookcases, cornices, and paneling according to written job orders and sketches.
• Repairs broken furniture.
• Lays and repairs linoleum and tile.
• Repairs and remodels window frames and installs window glass.
• Operates and maintain tools of the trades such as sanders, planes, lathes, power saws, and drills.
• Assigns, inspects, and assists in work performed by subordinates on large jobs as directed, insuring that work is performed according to proper safety standards and, if applicable, to the D.C. Building Code Regulations.
• Assists in estimating costs, time, manpower, and material.
• May serve as primary point of contact for contracts or projects, may serve as departmental representative in meetings or projects.
• Shop Lead Duties as required; including outage coverage.
• Team Lead provides oversight and quality assurance to other personnel on work products, operations, including inspections. In the absence of the Supervisor the lead provides supervision formally. Assists Supervisor with preparation of weekly work schedules, prioritization and distribution of work including service calls and preventive maintenance.
• Performs other work related duties as requested. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 3 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Ability to utilize and manage work order ticket using AiM.
