Summary of Duties:
The Department of History at Washington State University invites applications for a nine-month, full-time, tenure-track position in the area of Modern World History on the Vancouver campus, at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin August 15, 2018. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits are competitive and initial summer research support is normally available.

The Department of History offers undergraduate majors in History as well as interdisciplinary programs in Humanities and Social Sciences. Duties include conducting independent research leading to publication, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in history, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. In addition, the occupant of the position will be expected to contribute to campus, university, and departmental governance, as well as professional, state, and national communities, through service in ways appropriate to training and rank.

Required Qualifications:
The successful candidate must:
1. have a PhD in History (or strong evidence of completion of Ph.D. before employment start date);
2. demonstrated transnational expertise in 19th-20th century World History, including regional expertise in at least one of the following: Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean.
3. provide evidence of teaching ability and a commitment to mentoring students from diverse backgrounds;
4. provide evidence of developing and maintaining a productive research program; and,
5. demonstrate commitment to campus diversity efforts, social justice and inclusion (
