Operations Supervisor I
Plans work for research animal care technicians for 365 day per year operation; schedules and assigns workloads of animal care technicians; allocates equipment and optimizes animal research facility space usage; provides hands-on supervision for assigned research animal care technicians; assesses rooms for compliance with husbandry expectations; documents procedures for operations of assigned research animal facilities; provides hands-on training to assigned research animal care technicians; monitors research animal care technicians' performance and provides training opportunities; monitors sanitation effectiveness in animal facilities; provides hands-on training in sanitation procedures for assigned animal technicians; monitors animal health; analyzes operation efficiency and effectiveness of research animal technicians; meets with assigned animal technicians for feedback and to address continuous improvement goals of the unit. Meets with researchers and their staff to determine space and resources needed. This position is located at the MSU Grand Rapids Research Center.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge normally acquired from specialized training such as that acquired in college, technical, vocational, trade or business school with coursework in a field related to animal care; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in performing animal care husbandry tasks in a rodent research setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; Possession of a valid vehicle operator's license. Candidate must be able to travel to the MSU East Lansing campus for training and meetings.Desired Qualifications
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel. Experience supervising staff members. AALAS certification at the LATG level or attainment of certification within one year from date of hire.Required Application Materials
