Position Summary

This position will be cross-trained for all HCA duties including all front desk and back of clinic operations. Front desk duties may include: checking patients in and out, telephone triage, updating insurances, obtaining co-pays, cash drawer close-out, and scheduling appointments. This position may also be responsible for handling referrals, obtaining insurance authorizations and coordinating scheduling for specialist. Back of clinic duties will include chart preparation, rooming patients, obtaining vital signs, taking history and major complaint, reconciling medications, assisting with allergy testing and injections, giving immunizations and breathing treatments, and stocking clinic rooms. Additionally, this position will assist the providers as necessary.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge normally acquired through a high school education; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in a medical office setting or in a clinical setting performing routine health assessment tests; obtaining vital signs; experience with electronic health record systems and patient scheduling systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be a certified medical assistant with current certification, which must be maintained for the duration of employment.

Desired Qualifications

Experience working in an out-patient setting; familiarity with electronic medical record system(s); experience working in a pediatric or pulmonary setting; familiarity with insurances, obtaining authorizations, and coordinating specialist appointments.

Work Hours

Typically 8 am- 5 pm Monday- Friday, but may vary as clinic hours determine

Summary of Health Risks

Duties associated with this position include: exposure to human blood, serum, tissue and other body fluids; and materials covered under Universal Precautions; TB risk or work within three feet of patient in a health care setting; wear a respirator.
