Annual Giving Officer

Reporting to the Director of Annual Giving, the Annual Giving Officer will recruit, hire, train and manage a staff of student fundraisers in an effort to build relationships, maintain records and raise funds to support Emerson College.
This position will work closely with the Associate Director of Annual Giving to ensure consistent strategy, themes and monitoring are utilized to carry out the goals and objectives of the Annual Giving program, in keeping with the priorities and initiatives of the overall division. This position will also work closely with the Associate director to ensure a meaningful and timely stewardship plan for all donors to the Annual Fund.
The Annual Giving Officer will oversee student philanthropy initiatives, such as the Senior Class Gift, and work collaboratively with Alumni Relations to promote student engagement efforts and the management of the Student Alumni Association.
This position manages all aspects of Emerson's crowdfunding initiative, including liaising with departments educating and promoting our program, training and working with student groups and advisors to reach goal on multiple campaigns per year. Act as primary point of contact with crowdfunding platform vendor.
Please note that this position requires adjusted hours during active calling periods (fall and spring semesters) Monday through Thursday (calling ends at 9:30 p.m.) to ensure staff member is present observing and coaching student callers, as well as working with and helping student supervisors

Required Knowledge:
Bachelors degree required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, as well as knowledge of marketing tools and database experience needed. Direct experience with annual giving solicitation marketing strongly preferred.

Preferred/Desirable Knowledge:
Direct experience with Banner (or comparable donor database) and Wilson Bennett (or comparable automated calling system) preferred. Experience with crowdfunding also preferred.

Required Prior Work Experience:
3-5 years of nonprofit, development, management, annual giving, marketing, public relations, or similar professional work experience required. Knowledge of direct response fundraising, especially mail or marketing best practices and metrics needed. Demonstrated project management skills, strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work independently, attention to detail and follow-through, and excellent organizational skills are essential.

Job Duties:
  • • Working closely with the Associate Director of Annual Giving, implements a strategic plan of action with objectives and timelines for Emerson College’s phonathon program for the solicitation of prospects • Evaluates phonathon program segmentation and devises a comprehensive calendar for the fiscal year. • Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, evaluates and motivates student calling staff, including coaching through difficult conversations and providing positive reinforcement and constructive criticism as appropriate. Must continually explore, design, implement, refine and evaluate motivational strategies to ensure an acceptable retention rate and maximum productivity by student phonathon program employees, as well as handling disciplinary action of callers when necessary, and processing of student paperwork and tracking attendance • Creates and revises all phonathon program materials including pre-call communications, scripts, training materials, processing forms and policy and procedure manuals at appropriate times • Maintain Phonathon room, ensuring it is left in good order • Working closely with Advancement Services, ensure segments are requested and loaded into calling platform well in advance of calling a particular segment. Ensure accurate reports are being sent to Advancement Services for updates and recording. Monitor benchmarking reports in Cognos to track results and ensure data from Wilson Bennett is getting to Banner database. Handle technical issues with automated calling system, Wilson Bennett, by troubleshooting and triaging to Information Technology or vendor as appropriate
  • Direct the overall strategy for student philanthropy and engagement initiatives through the The Senior Gift program. This includes design of a strategic plan and management of its implementation throughout the year. Provide fundraising consulting and training services to student groups campus-wide to help raise funds from the student body for internal Emerson College causes. Recruit and manage a student committee chair for The Senior Gift, and assist them in running the committee by providing guidance and mentorship on feasibility of various efforts, legal, logistical and other considerations. Working with Development staff and The Senior Gift Committee, develop and execute effective strategies for student donor relations and stewardship programs to thank students for their support as well as educate them regarding the importance of long-term giving and the impact of alumni support to the College. Working with the Annual Giving team and the Associate Director of Alumni Communications, create and maintain a social media strategy for The Senior Gift and other campaigns where appropriate. Prepare and deliver detailed revenue and performance reports for student philanthropy and all other ongoing campaigns with assistance from Advancement Services.
  • Perform all aspects of annual fund pledge fulfillment. This includes email and mailed pledge reminders, end of year reminder calls, and the management of student caller-to-donor communications.
  • Working with the Associate Director of Annual Giving, create and execute a strategy for first-time donor communication and overall stewardship of Annual Fund donors.
  • Manage the Annual Fund’s crowdfunding efforts, including but not limited to, presenting to campus partners and coordinating applications for crowd funding campaigns from student groups.
  • Assist Annual Giving team with alumni participation efforts (e.g. Day of Giving)
