DIR, ALUMNI MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS
The Director of Communications, Marketing and Alumni Relations is responsible for planning, designing, assessing and managing all communication, marketing, media, alumni relations and special events efforts for the Duke Global Health Institute (DGHI) with the goal of reaching out to the Institute's constituencies and supporting the education, research, service and policy mission.
The Director of Communications, Marketing and Alumni Relations will report to the Director of DGHI, manage a team, and work collaboratively across Duke University and Duke Health.
# Serve as the chief marketing and communications officer for DGHI. Advise managers on marketing and communications strategies for their programs, and ensure that efforts to promote individual programs and events align with the larger DGHI communications and marketing plan.
# Provide oversight of the DGHI Communications/Marketing/Alumni Relations Team, which includes a web manager, communications specialist, and marketing and events coordinator.
# Develop, implement and evaluate DGHI's internal and external communications systems, strategies, and policies to strengthen the DGHI brand and relationships with target audiences and university leadership.
# Work closely with appropriate Duke University and Duke Health offices on issues and crisis management and communications.
# Plan an alumni relations strategy that incorporates campaign messaging, themes, and priorities to constituency programs in support of development goals.
# Ensure accurate and complete alumni data; capture contact, biographical and career information of alumni via surveys, projects (e.g. alumni directory), correspondence, website, postal returns, etc. Oversee the maintenance of accurate records and pertinent information databases, including updating committee membership, event participation, etc.
# Oversee DGHI's digital and social media, print publications and internal communications, manage media relations, and serve as the spokesperson for DGHI and liaison to the university's and health systems public affairs, development and alumni relations staff. Contribute to content development, such as writing press releases.
# Plan and provide counsel and coaching to DGHI faculty, management and staff on effective use of communications. Recommend courses of action to DGHI leadership for improving communication, marketing, and branding strategies for DGHI's activities in Durham and around the globe.
# Oversee planning, implementation and advertising activities related to the organization of special events (e.g. workshops, seminars, conferences, symposia) on and off campus, locally, nationally and internationally.
# Lead efforts with DGHI education, service, research and policy leaders to develop outreach and marketing plans to reach relevant constituents.
# Serve as a member of the DGHI management team.
# Develop benchmarking program and provide reports on program success and event participation and provide reports to the DGHI Director.
# Conduct a complete budget analysis to bring budget into alignment with strategic objectives. Develop and oversee the budget for DGHI Communications, Marketing and Alumni Relations. Determine objectives, summarize outcomes and expenses, evaluate and refine activities as appropriate within the annual program budget.

Completion of a bachelor's degree program in Journalism, Communications, English or a related discipline. Master's preferred.
Minimum seven years experience in marketing communications for a complex organization.
