Occupational Summary

We are looking for a highly motivated person to work in the laboratory in the Department of Neurology at Duke University. The laboratory studies underlying mechanisms of Parkinson's disease. We use a highly diverse range of tools in both in vitro and in vivo systems to study neuro-degeneration. The candidate must be flexible and willing to function is a fast-paced environment. Must be able to manage multiple and rapidly changing priorities and learn new skills. Must be detail-oriented and well-organized with strong communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment.

Work Performed
Perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in research laboratory tests, experiments and determinations to obtain data for research purposes; compile, analyze, document and draw tentative conclusions from experimental results. Confer with principal investigator to review work assignments and develop plans for research experiments. Review laboratory methods manual, scientific journals, abstracts and other literature for information applicable to research experiments.

• Prepare and maintain cell line and primary neuronal cultures
• Molecular biological techniques, including DNA and RNA isolation, PCR
• Protein biochemical methods including SDS-PAGE, western blot analysis, histological techniques and microscopy
• Prepare culture media, chemical, reagents and solutions
• Lab administrative work: purchasing, maintaining databases and logs
• Set up and maintain lab equipment, cleaning and organizing
• Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein

Preferred qualifications: Must have experience with PCR, western blot analysis and cell culture.
