Who we are:
The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at the University of Colorado Boulder emphasizes knowledge of the basic principles of chemistry, including atomic and molecular theory, the states of matter and reactivities and properties of chemical substances. Students study the basic subfields of chemistry, such as organic, physical, analytical and inorganic chemistry (and biochemistry for biochemistry majors), all while developing the mathematical skills to understand fundamental chemical relationships and to manipulate experimental data. Graduates also learn safe chemical practices, including handling waste, safety equipment, assembling chemical apparatus and designing experiments.
What your key responsibilities will be:
The Manager of Building Operations provides leadership for the physical upkeep of the department of Chemistry, which includes two buildings, Cristol Chemistry and Ekeley, comprising over 300,000 square feet of research laboratory, office and support space. The Manager of Building Operations represents the Department to internal and external constituents on all issues related to construction, renovation, maintenance and repair of said buildings and is on call, 24 hours a day 7 days a week to handle building emergencies.
Specific responsibilities include:
Department Project Manager - Oversee all department projects to include new construction, renovation, and relocation projects, including: new faculty laboratory space, existing laboratory and office remodels, interdepartmental moves and infrastructure improvement projects within the Chemistry assigned space.
Facilities Manager/Building Proctor - Manage and oversee any maintenance issues and facility related emergencies (chemical spills, fires, floods) that arise for both the Ekeley and Cristol Chemistry buildings
Department Environmental Health & Safety Liaison - Collaborate with the campus EH&S department to ensure that the department is staying in compliance with any regulatory requirements, coordinate lab clean ups to assure that labs are cleaned and cleared appropriately to eliminate any potential hazards, and advise and instruct any department operations staff on safety related issues, concerns, compliance, etc.
Office of Information Technology Liaison - Represent and relay department IT concerns to campus OIT (liaison with OIT), act as the department Dedicated Desktop Suport (DDS) liaison directing end users to submit tickets for DDS support and to report broken equipment, etc. (may submit on end users' behalf as needed).
Property Manager - Responsible for the oversight of the Chemistry department's capital asset management program: work directly with Chemistry Finance staff and Property Management services to track, tag and conduct inventories of the department's capital assets.
Supervisor for Temporary and Student Workers - As needed, direct student workers and temporary employees on short-term or specialized projects, such as preparing labs for new faculty hires, cleaning out old labs, disposition of chemicals, etc.
What we can offer:
The anticipated starting salary for this position is in the mid-$60,000's, commensurate with skills and experience.

What we require:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Three years of professional experience managing a scientific research facility.
What you will need:
- Excellent problem solving, project management, team building, written and oral communication and customer service skills.
What we'd like you to have:
- Bachelor's degree or more advanced degree from an accredited college or university in a scientific field of study.
- Experience working in an academic institution including: building management, working with construction and contractors and with infrastructure systems.
- Experience managing a laboratory involving chemicals and related infrastructure.
Preferred qualifications may be used to further reduce the pool of applicants to those who are most highly qualified.
