Responsibilities include: plan and conduct educational training of collaborative facilities on conducting surveillance, using the Centers for Disease Control and Epidemiology (CDC)/National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) database, calculating rates and benchmarking outcome data and implementing evidence-based practices; review patient medical records, determine facility compliance with use of NHSN surveillance definitions and create facility validation report; consult with facility level administrators and infection prevention staff as needed; provide guidance in the control and prevention of health care associated infection transmission; assist Kentucky Department for Public Health (KDPH)in outbreak investigations in health care facilities; collaborate with facility personnel and experts within Kentucky Department for Public Health (KDPH), Local Health Departments and CDC; develop and recommend prevention and control strategies.

Physical Requirements

Office setting and travel to healthcare facilities in Kentucky for infection control assessments, validate data, investigate outbreaks, conduct or attend trainings. Use of the phone/computer for periods of time, carry resources/references up to 25 lbs. Travel out of state for training.


Days/37.5 Monday - Friday. May be required to work outside of normal business hours during a public health emergency or outbreak investigation. Overtime is not required.

Preferred Education/Experience

BSN required. Masters of Nursing, Public Health or related field preferred. Experience and Certification in Infection Prevention and Control.
Driver's License preferred.
