Position Overview

Plans, designs, develops, and delivers training and instructional programs, using instructor-led, train-the trainer, electronic/web-based, and/or multimedia training methods and formats. Develops training materials to include training handbooks, guides, multimedia visual aids, web-based tutorials, and standard operating procedures. Plans and directs IT sponsored events, conferences and workshops. Provides one-on-one training sessions in the Technology Resource Center for faculty, staff, and students. Works closely with other TRC staff, UCO faculty development staff, and university community-at-large in development and support of training opportunities. Conducts technology training sessions for UCO academic classes upon request of faculty. Facilitates proactive marketing of this program. Researches, evaluates, creates and recommends innovative technology resources and tools for productivity and instructional use. Provides quality technical support to UCO staff, faculty and students on UCO supported applications and enterprise systems. Actively participates in meetings, workshops and training sessions for on-going projects that will impact end users in order to effectively train end users on new applications or upgrades to existing applications. Provides walk-in scheduling, reservation assistance, problem solving, deskside assistance and reference material check out services. Maintains training database and calendar schedule, and schedules room and participants. Notifies and confirms participants in scheduled classes. Coordinates scheduling for all training requests. Reports on all training activities scheduled in TRC resources. Coordinates maintenance of training labs, prepares classrooms for training sessions, and coordinates outside organization rental agreements. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions

Conduct training classes for employees on the features of technical programs/systems. Design and develop training programs and plans. Ensures training materials are current and effective. Prepare training materials and documentation, and explain complex information to non-technical audiences. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. May work with third party vendors.

Scope and Impact: This position is an intermediate-level independent contributor whose actions may have a significant impact on a department's operations. This position may also affect operations of multiple work areas.

Budget Authority: May provide input into budget development by identifying operational needs and requirements. May assist with research, requirements gathering or other related efforts to develop budgetary requirements.

Policy and Procedure Authority: Primarily responsible for applying organizational policies and procedures and/or determining appropriate process to follow.

Reporting Relationships: Generally reports to a manager or higher but may receive basic operational direction and guidance from senior level staff members.

Supervisory and Team Leadership Responsibility: May provide functional subject matter expertise and guidance to junior staff.

Effective Knowledge: Demonstrates functional expertise in a particular domain. Demonstrates ability to operate independently and without supervision for day to day operations.

Problem Solving and Judgment: Maintains a working knowledge of policies and procedures, generally accepted principles, and methods. Resolves day to day operational issues by collecting and interpreting information. Solutions may include modifying procedures and methods to address new conditions and may incorporate advice and input as needed from supervisor. This role includes broad responsibilities requiring the application of policies to dynamic and complex conditions. Problems generally require significant analysis and judgment. Solutions may include adapting existing policies and systems to address unique situations.

Communication and Interaction: Interacts with various levels within or outside the University to provide service, interpret and explain ideas and concepts, as well as resolve issues.

Title Authority: This level is created by the Classification function in Human Resources, based on business need as determined by area leadership and approved by the appropriate Vice President, in accordance with university practices.

May train and supervise student employees. Works under minimal supervision with some latitude for independent judgment.

Qualifications/Experience Required

Requires a bachelor's degree in field plus 3+ years of relevant experience in the chosen field or 7+ years of equivalent work experience that provides knowledge of and exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts. Requires the application of expertise in a chosen field to achieve results.

Qualifications/Experience Preferred

Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Academic Technology, or Education (with a concentration in Training and Development). Microsoft Certified Trainer. Experience with eLearning platforms and standard academic and productivity applications. Proficient in productivity tools for both PC's and Mac. Experience developing web-based video tutorials. Experience developing training animations using Adobe Storyline or equivalent software. Knowledge of training assessment practices and theories. Ability to adapt training to a variety of technical skill levels. Skill using computer programs in the development of training materials including word processing, presentation software and learning platform technologies (for example Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Captivate, Photoshop). Demonstrated ability to train adult learners.


Must possess excellent customer service, oral/written communication skills and be self-motivated. Must be able to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. Must have ability to manage to completion multiple projects, as well as remain current with the latest technologies. Must be able to maintain courteous attitude with students, faculty, staff and visitors. Must have proven ability to learn technologies quickly and to perform effectively under pressure.

Physical Demands
