General Summary of Position:
This being an internal opportunity, only current UML Employees, irrespective of Bargaining units are eligible to apply for this position.

Responsible for assisting the University in effecting compliance with various Federal, State and local regulations pertaining to environmental, sustainability and public health/safety programs. Works under the direction of the Senior Associate Director of Sustainability and in close collaboration with the Director of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS).

This position assists in supporting, maintaining, developing, establishing and implementing daily operations and programs related to environmental and sustainable practices such as; waste minimization, recycling, energy conservation on a university wide basis and reducing the University's carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions through environmental sustainable practices, community education/awareness and energy conservation initiatives are common goals for this position.

Works closely and collaborates with the Environmental Health & Safety Office. The Environmental & Sustainability Waste Management Coordinator is responsible for the collection, servicing and enhancement of UMass Lowell's recycling and sustainability programs, and assists in the operations and programs related to the EHS Hazardous & Recycling Materials Receiving & Shipping Stockroom. These programs include the acceptance, inventory, disbursement of hazardous products (chemical, biological radiological) and related supplies, the collection and disposal of hazardous & non-hazardous waste products and recyclable materials. Provides EHS office program support to laboratories and an active emergency responder for hazardous materials, bodily fluid and environmental releases.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):
-Bachelor's degree in an environmental or social human interaction related field with a minimum of one year of experience,
-HS Diploma/GED with minimum of five years of experience with progressive demonstrated responsibilities for assisting in the development, implementation, collection, disposal, measuring and monitoring of laboratory operations, chemical inventories, sustainability and energy conservation programs
-Certificate of completion for "40 hour Hazardous Waste site personnel basic health and safety course" Note: Must complete within six (6) months of appointment to position.
-Knowledge and experience with implementing effective waste minimization programs (recycling, greening, sustainability) for a large agency or program
-Establish and maintain productive relationships with program associated UML community, contractors and vendors
-Ability to administer and monitor various awarded contracts and monitor, workers, contractors and vendors for effectiveness and thoroughness
-Possess a current driver's license

Other Considerations:
-Self starter and goal orientated
-Competency in all common office computer application, email, spreadsheets, word processing, etc.
