Lone Star College-System Office employees are based at one of two System Office locations; The Woodlands and University Park.  Both are the site for multiple administrative departments and system-wide training programs.

This position is located at the LSC-System Office, University Park location at 20515 SH 249 (SH 249 and Louetta Road) Houston, Texas 77070-2607.

Position Summary:

Provides and applies functional and technical expertise towards the development and/or redesign of current business processes to ensure effective and efficient use of core business and IT competencies. Provides training on technical and processes competencies. A member of a 24/7/365 global department.

Job Functions:  

  1. Meets with decision makers, systems owners and end users to define business, financial and operations requirements and systems goals, and identifies and resolve systems issues
  2. Reviews and analyzes the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems and develops strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems. Identifies client organization’s strengths and weaknesses and suggests areas of improvement
  3. Leads requirements gathering sessions to identify requirements, specifications, business processes and recommendations related to proposed solution
  4. Expected to participate in the development of improvements and help to implement the changes within team. May propose or initiate innovative changes to improve the way work is done by the team or across teams
  5. Performs cost-benefit and return on investment analyses for proposed systems to aid management in making implementation decisions
  6. Conducts research on software and hardware products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts
  7. Prepares and delivers highly effective reports, recommendations, or alternatives that address existing and potential trouble areas in operating systems across the organization. Estimate the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals
  8. Creates systems models, specifications, diagrams and charts to provide direction to developers
  9. Collaborates in the planning, design, development, and deployment of new applications and enhancements to existing applications
  10. Identifies complex, multi-faceted problems and takes immediate action to address them
  11. Serves as an informal “ambassador” for the team’s work
  12. Conducts training on technical topics
  13. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties assigned

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:  

  • Highly skilled at explaining technical subjects to non- technical as well as technical customers
  • Has a good understanding in at least one area (e.g. PC or Mac), and developing understanding in additional areas
  • Has a deeper knowledge of the specific area or areas of IT in which they specialize
  • Maintains an awareness of state of the art concepts, practices and technologies and applies this awareness to his/her work
  • Understands the purpose and operations of other teams within IT
  • Extrapolates existing information/practices to solve problems. May help team members and/or customers clarify somewhat complex problems or situations
  • Ability to occasionally lead team or groups through a problem- solving process
  • Ability to review work at critical milestones with team leader or sponsor in order to maintain their commitment and support
  • Ability to translate technical information into specifications or action plans. May probe with customers to discover unexpressed information
  • Ability to develop presentations that inform team members and customers
  • Ability to negotiate needed actions, using established precedents
  • Identifies complex, multi-faceted problems and takes immediate action to address them

Required:
