Position Summary:

Saint Augustine’s University seeks candidates for a part time Theatre Designer and Technical Director in the Theatre program within the Department of Humanities. This position reports directly to the Director of Theatre and primarily facilitates the technical needs for the Theatre Program within the Department of Humanities. Secondary responsibilities include facilitating technical needs for non-theatre program events.

Responsibilities:               

  • The primary responsibilities are to design and build sets for the Theatre Program. This person will facilitate the technical needs for a two to three show season of faculty and student directed plays. This includes constructing, maintaining, refurbishing, and rebuilding sets and properties; hanging, focusing, and programming lights, and operating lighting equipment as needed; designing sound and operating sound equipment as needed.
  • Maintain the theatre physical areas including: the auditorium, stage, control booth, backstage area, equipment rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, other Program facilities.
  • Supervise students in the construction of scenic elements, lighting, and sound.
  • Recommend the purchase of equipment and other materials needed for the Theatre Program.
  • Work closely with Theatre faculty to coordinate the Master Calendar of event held in the Seby B. Jones Auditorium (Theatre

Responsibilities for Non-Theatre Program Events

  • Facilitate the technical needs of both on and off campus groups that use the Seby B. Jones Auditorium (Theatre).
  • Hang and focus lighting instruments, operate light board, set up microphones, operate the audio equipment, connect projection systems, set up rigging, supervise load-ins and strikes, coordinate with campus Facilities, Maintenance, and Police Department.
  • Coordinate and maintain the Master Calendar (space reservation) for all events that take place in the Seby B. Jones Auditorium.

Qualifications:.

 

 

Qualified candidates should hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Design and Technology.

Physical Requirements:

 

 

Must be physically fit to build sets and set up lighting and sound equipment.
