The Biology Department at The University of the South seeks a neurobiologist for a tenure-track assistant professor position at one of the nation's top liberal arts institutions.

The Neuroscience Program is a new, interdisciplinary program consisting of faculty from Biology and Psychology. The program introduces students to cognitive, behavioral and molecular/cellular neuroscience through writing-intensive and lab-based research. The successful candidate will contribute their expertise to the steering committee and shape the direction of this growing program.

Teaching responsibilities include an introductory neuroscience course, regular participation in cell and molecular biology core courses, and other courses in the candidate's area specialty. The University has a 3/2 teaching load with both lecture and lab sections counting toward that total. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in hand by the time of appointment.

We seek candidates whose teaching and research interests center on molecular and/or cellular neuroscience. Applications from neurobiologists studying any model system are welcome, but we particularly encourage individuals using non-mammalian models to apply. Candidates should be enthusiastic about teaching in the context of the liberal arts tradition in education and plan a research program with opportunities for undergraduate involvement.

Review of applications will begin on September 15, 2017. Applications will continue to be accepted until the position is filled. Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, CV, teaching and research statements, graduate and undergraduate transcripts (unofficial accepted), and three letters of reference through the application portal at

The University of the South comprises a well-regarded College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and a distinguished School of Theology. It is an institution of the Episcopal Church that welcomes individuals of all backgrounds. The University is located on a striking, 13,000-acre campus on Tennessee's Cumberland Plateau.
