The Chief of Staff works to resolve and carry out decision-making on behalf of the President which affect the overall operation of the University. Manages the workflow of the President and expedites the work of the University through appropriate channels. Additionally, s/he briefs and prepares the President for meetings and external events.

 S/he is a trusted advisor to the President and senior leadership on institutional planning, policy and program development, problem resolution as well as ensuring that plans are effectively developed, communicated, managed and executed.

  1. Acts as a trusted adviser to the President, facilitating effective decision-making and coordinating the execution of strategic initiatives.

  2. Organizes and prioritizes issues between the President and other stakeholders.

  3. Manage internal and external events to promote and support the university within the community.

  4. Respond on behalf of the President to inquiries from, and/or issues involving, students, employees, and members of the public.

  5. Work with senior leadership to oversee complex, high-priority projects.Develop and review strategies to ensure projects align with the strategic plan and desired outcomes.

  6. Conduct special administrative and research studies on a wide range of subjects related to the overall management and operations of the university, as well as special projects and programs initiated by the President.

  7. Develop and deliver complex presentation materials including charts, graphs and other data representations and make recommendations for new operational strategies, programs and/or revisions to existing policies to senior leadership and other diverse groups.

  8. Provide on-going analysis and delivery of projects to maximize use of resources including time, people, and money. Monitor project costs and performance, service levels and other metrics required to ensure project goals and objectives are met.

  9. Join President at various events and functions so as to have first-hand knowledge of matters discussed by the President with external community members, and in turn, be able to implement next steps on a priority basis.

  10. Perform other duties as assigned.


    Demonstrated management experience in complex academic organizations in promoting and implementing new initiatives, improving quality outcomes and fostering multi-office collaboration and a positive work environment;

    Demonstrated experience providing management support to a high level executive, including overseeing commitments and ensuring priorities in an intense dynamic environment;

    Have demonstrated strong business acumen, able to communicate with stakeholders at all levels effectively on given topics and having strong judgement on how to make sound decisions.
    Strong writing skills essential.

    Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, coordinate and direct multiple projects and activities with varied deadlines, utilize sound judgement, be a strategic thinker and effective in moving strategic agendas, and be both savvy and ensure utmost discretion in all matters;

    Strong written and oral communication skills.  Ability to write speeches that are effective and goal oriented.


  11. PhD or professional degree such as a MBA or MPA strongly preferred, Master’s degree required

  12. Ten years of experience working with executive level leadership,

  13. Prior experience in working in strictly confidential environments.

  14. Requires night and weekend availability

  15. Flexible schedule requiring night and weekend work and travel in the US and internationally.

  16. Experience in higher education highly desired.
