Plant Superintendent , 2nd Shift
NATURE OF WORK
The Second Shift Plant Superintendent will manage all aspects of manufacturing operations of all production departments for the second shift. Ensure that these functions meet or exceed the plant's productivity, service, quality, and safety goals, so that the company can meet its plan and achieve its goals for profitable growth. Coordinate with first shift manufacturing management, including all departmental supervisors, to assure full execution of required work and tasks. Participate fully in continuous improvement efforts.
Coordinate all second shift manufacturing efforts with first shift management.
Establish and maintain good work habits throughout the shop floor, in conformance with company policy and customer requirements. Ensure appropriate discipline and order, providing a work atmosphere conducive to safety and excellent execution in quality, cost, and delivery. Monitor productivity (PUE) and adjust as required to accomplish objectives.
Gain a strong understanding of industry production, quality, inventory, and delivery standards; develop budget and cost controls; obtain and understand information regarding types, specifications, quantities, and delivery dates of products.
Direct and manage the performance of the supervisory staff and operations personnel within the assigned departments.
Plan and direct production activities and establish production priorities for products keeping with effective operations and cost factors.
Coordinate and manage production activities with all departments and with first shift to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, equipment, systems and procedures.
Support and augment the Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement efforts within the plant.
Review and analyze and communicate production, quality, maintenance, inventory, safety, and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity of product and other performance specifications and take appropriate actions to address these issues.
Develop a team that is accountable and has a continuous improvement attitude with good interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Assure proper coordination and communication between members of the manufacturing staff, management peers, and other functions and departments as necessary.
Assist in specifying and justifying human resource and capital requirements.
Develop and implement operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and improve cost, quality, throughput and safety.
Report production status to all appropriate parties, revising schedules and priorities in conformance to customer requirements and the company's operating standards.
Review scheduling requirements, status of work-in-progress, and departmental workloads, and make changes in staffing and working hours to meet plant goals.
Create and maintain relevant, accurate, up-to date, and visible metrics that help drive performance goals.
Ensure that departmental budget expenses are in line with financial plans and sales revenue performance.
Participate in the development and execution of training and development programs of all direct reports to build an increasingly effective and motivated work force.
Conduct effective, meaningful performance and salary reviews of direct reports.
Responsible for adherence to plant and corporate policies and practices.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
This position will report to the Vice President of Operations.
This position supervises the work of the Shop Floor Supervisors and Team Leaders. Assigns work and provides assistance to or answers questions that employees may have. Work is reviewed through observation of work, and through annual performance appraisals for accuracy, thoroughness, timeliness and the degree to which the work meets the needs of the workforce.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is performed primarily in an shop floor setting and is essentially sedentary with occasional walking, standing, lifting, bending, or minimal physical activities carrying items under 25 pounds. Must adhere to all safety policies and procedures including protective equipment.

Working knowledge of MS Office Suite or other work processing, spreadsheet and data base software standard that may be adopted by the company. Ability to learn and use the ERP system (IFS).
While there is some degree of technical support on second shift, it is most critical for the person in this role understands process flow. It would be beneficial to have ability in programming robotic welding, CNC milling machine programming, and a good understanding of machine troubleshooting.
EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
This position will have a minimum of 8 years of experience in a manufacturing setting, at least five years of which in a supervisory or management capacity.
Familiarity with Lean, QRM and Six Sigma preferred.
A strong technical aptitude required. Bachelor's Degree in operations management, business, or technical degree is a plus.
