We are currently seeking a Veterans Affairs Assistant who will advance the institution's proud tradition of excellence in academics, student life and community service.
You: You enjoy meeting and helping people - especially students!
Your mission: You'll assist with program activities and services that enhance student leadership, participation, success and retention, while you provide the clerical support that keeps the Veterans Affairs office running smoothly and efficiently.
Your work: In this role, you'll assist your supervisor, the director of Veterans Affairs and Online STU, with a wide range of activities, including recruitment events at high schools, colleges and community fairs; planning and coordinating the annual graduation ceremony; and coordinating special projects and assignments from the Vice Chancellor and Associate Vice Chancellor of STU. Student organizations at HCC support the success of students with specific interests, needs and goals, and you'll help plan and conduct system-wide leadership training opportunities (e.g., workshops, seminars, meetings and conferences) for faculty advisors and student leaders to inform them about new, revised and updated policies and procedures relating to student organizations. In addition, you'll prepare and present weekly, monthly and ad hoc status reports on system-wide activities and services to the director, VC and AVC of STU.

High school diploma or equivalent required. Associates degree preferred.
Minimum of one (1) year experience in office environment is required. Prefer at least six (6) months to one (1) year experience in a community college STU setting.
Experience participating, planning or coordinating outreach activities in a higher education or community setting.
Experience using PeopleSoft Student Administration or Finance is required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Demonstrate excellent interpersonal written and oral communication skills.
Ability to work a flexible work schedule (some evening and weekend hours may be required).
Demonstrate computer literacy skills in Windows, (Word, Powerpoint, Excel).
