Success Coach

General Summary:

Advise and counsel a caseload of students on academic achievement and program curriculum requirements; supervise team of peer-led instructors.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage caseload of students by assisting each in creating a personal academic success plan, providing academic success coaching and learning strategy instruction, and identifying and prescribing specific supports, both inside and outside of Holman Success Center.

Supervise team of peer-led instructors of the UNIV 101L3 course and/or one or more assigned graduate assistants.

Assist in administering support programs designed for specific students, such as those admitted to the University through the EMU Edge program and those students placed on Academic Probation.

Assist with in-service training seminars for staff, interns, graduate assistants and undergraduate student employees.

Attend staff meetings and participate on University committees.

If applicable to area of assignment, adhere to any and all NCAA, Mid-American Conference and Eastern Michigan University policies, rules, regulations, and operational procedures.

Perform related Departmental duties as required. Qualifications:
Knowledge of academic coaching and counseling and at-risk student populations (first-year, Pell-eligible, first-generation, etc.), typically acquired through the completion of a master's degree in college student counseling or student affairs.

Two (2) years of experience in an academic support and/or counseling-related environment, is necessary.

Written and interpersonal communication skills, in order to effectively interact with students, are necessary.

Personal computer knowledge is necessary.

Professional counseling licensure is desirable.

Three (3) years of experience teaching first-year seminar is desirable.

Ability to perform physically active work of a light nature including occasional lifting requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force to transport materials and equipment may be necessary depending on area of assignment.

Previous experience providing knowledge of academic areas of assignment may be required.
