Molecular Genetics and Microbiology

This position is anticipated to be for approximately one year, it may be extended depending on needs of the lab, funding, and performance.

Occ Summary
Perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in conducting laboratory tests, experiments and determinations in support of Duke University research operations.

Work Performed
  • We seek a highly motivated, organized, and independent individual to serve as research technician for laboratory involved in molecular genetics of human hereditary disease.
  • Approximately 75% of time will be devoted to working with transgenic and knockout mice, including studies of experimental therapies.
  • Duties will include mouse husbandry (setting up matings, weaning litters, maintaining lines), tamoxifen and other injections), and gross and microscopic examination of organs and tissues from these mice.
  • An important component of the position is maintaining our LIMS database of each animal in the mouse colony.
  • Thus strong organizational skills are critical.
  • The other 25% of the time will be devoted to laboratory bench work, including genotyping mice (PCR and, gel electrophoresis), and tissue preparation.
  • Previous laboratory experience working with mice is preferred.
