Requisition Title: Assistant Professor - Socio-Cultural Anthropology - 1701231
The Department of Anthropology at the University of Toronto, Scarborough (UTSC) invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment in socio-cultural anthropology. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor and will commence on July 1, 2018.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Anthropology or a closely related discipline by the time of appointment or shortly thereafter. We seek candidates whose work is deeply informed by theory and grounded in intensive, long-term ethnographic research, who conduct research in South Asia or East Asia and whose work explores urban life, the environment and / or history / historicity. The successful candidate's research and teaching interests will complement existing departmental strengths, without too closely replicating them. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct innovative research at the highest international level and to establish an outstanding, externally funded research program. She or he will have an emerging record of scholarly accomplishment and will provide evidence of excellence in research as demonstrated by presentations at significant conferences, awards for work in the field, strong endorsements by referees of high international standing, and a record of an output of research or sustained contributions and publications in top ranked and field relevant academic journals and/or with leading academic presses.
The successful candidate also must have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching. This can be demonstrated by strong endorsements from referees, teaching accomplishments highlighted as part of the application, strong teaching evaluations, and the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application, and any additional evidence. Candidates should be able and willing to teach Introductory classes as well as mid and upper-level courses in the discipline.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
