Job Description
The Division of University Relations, Communications and Marketing (URCM) at UNT is seeking to hire a Senior Social Media Strategist (Communications Specialist III) to join our team.

This individual will support the mission of the university by planning, writing, coordinating and managing strategic content for university print and digital communications, with a specialized focus on brand social media. This individual will help market UNT to key audiences, promotes the image of the institution to internal and external constituencies and helps increase undergraduate and graduate enrollment and retention; to develop, organize and create social media materials that will maximize UNT' exposure. Reports to the Social Media Manager and represents the Social Media Manager, as assigned.

This individual will support the mission of the university by overseeing and coordinating UNT's social media strategy and accounts, serving as a top social media expert for the university. This person will plan, write, coordinate and execute social media campaigns in a strategic manner. Social media campaigns and content should always showcase the university's strongest assets and support UNT's progress in the achievement of its mission and goals. This person must have an intimate knowledge of a variety of audiences to engage and persuade, ultimately working to build a stronger online community for UNT. They must understand how to determine the best times to engage those audiences and upon which social media platforms to engage them. The individual must have the ability to research emerging social media platforms, trends, best practices and changing platform algorithms.

This individual will oversee the creation of messages to external and internal audiences, serving as a team lead for projects or as a social media consultant for the social components of URCM-led projects and to other departments across campus. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

* Understands UNT's mission and strategic goals, as well as key messaging, and works to help meet those goals as part of teams and independently.
* Identifies strategies for new social platforms, setting up accounts and creating strategic goals and then maintaining social communities/profiles and ascertaining best times/dates to post across platforms.
* Strategizes, plans, coordinates and executes social media content and campaigns for official UNT social media properties, overseeing the creation of content by other writers.
* Monitors UNT social media properties, engaging with audience members where appropriate, answering questions, correcting misinformation, or directing them to UNT resources.
* Researches and reports on UNT's standing within the social media arena as compared to our peer institutions and UNT's success rate across all platforms. Evaluates brand leaders and higher education institutions for trends to make recommendations on UNT content and strategies.
* Serves as consultant with entities and departments across campus regarding social media best practices, strategies and goals.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in related field and five years of experience in writing and/or editing publications; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training. The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required:
* Ability to conceptualize, write and edit strategic, accurate and concise content for university audiences.
* Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, conduct multiple tasks and maintain effective working relationships.
* Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
* Ability to visually inspect print and online copy when self-editing or editing the copy of others including experience in creative editing and fact checking techniques.
* Develops cooperation and teamwork while participating in a group of people, often becomes the go to person in a group for information or connections to getting things done.
* Knowledge of how to contact sources and ability to conduct interviews and take accurate notes.
* Extensive knowledge of spelling, grammar, punctuation and Associated Press and Chicago Manual styles.
* Knowledge of writing guidelines for various media and ability to create unique copy for each format (print, online, broadcast).
* Understanding of institutional strategy (or ability to quickly assimilate) and ability to integrate the strategy into modes of communication.
* Ability to supervise and/or coordinate the work of others and responsible for the production of deadline driven high quality product.
* Knowledge of and ability to research industry best practices to assist the division, college or unit in aligning strategies for UNT publications (print and digital) with University strategy and guidelines and effectively edit and improve content for readers based on best practices.
* Ability to coordinate large projects with numerous components over extended periods of time.

Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:

* At least five years monitoring, coordinating and planning strategies and content for professional, branded social media channels (NOT personal social media accounts).
* Experience administering brand social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
* Success evaluating and launching new tools with a developed strategies that take into account audiences specific to UNT and industry best practices.
* Ability to understand and apply compelling storytelling techniques to social media content to ensure various types of content resonate with targeted audiences.
* Ability to conceptualize, write and edit strategic, accurate and concise content for various internal and external university audiences for print and digital channels.
* Experience creating short video content for social media channels.
* Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, conduct multiple tasks and maintain effective working relationships.
* Possess the ability to create and execute campaigns and strategies and to plan, supervise and coordinate content creation and to review created content.
* Familiarity with social media management sites and reporting platforms such as Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Radian 6 and Facebook Insights and must possess the ability to use these tools to report social media metrics.
* Must be able to exhibit sound judgment when engaging with and managing the social media community and serve as the leader for social media for URCM and UNT.
* Ability to work some nights and weekends.
