Job Summary: The Department of International Affairs (DIA) at the University of Georgia invites applications for two tenure track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor in the field of comparative politics, to begin in the fall semester of 2018. Candidates are expected to have demonstrated an ability to produce high quality research and show promise of external funding. While we seek a scholar who is broadly trained in the concepts, methods, and approaches in comparative politics, we are particularly interested in candidates whose teaching and research interests are in the areas of sub-Saharan African, Latin American, or post-communist politics. The candidate should be engaged in theory driven research with an ability to apply appropriate empirical methods of theory testing and is expected to have a deep understanding of the historical, cultural, and political background of the region in which he/she is interested. The School of Public and International Affairs, of which the DIA is one of three Departments, has two state of the art experimental research labs - one for group surveys and experiments; the other for political psychophysiological research. Candidates who can make use of these facilities are particularly encouraged to apply. The Department of International Affairs is committed to enhancing the diversity of the department and the curriculum. Candidates who can contribute to these goals are encouraged to apply and to identify their strengths and experiences in this area in their cover letter. Prospective candidates should send a cover letter indicating interest and qualifications, a current curriculum vita, teaching evaluations demonstrating excellence in instruction, original transcripts, and three letters of recommendation. Applications received by September 20, 2017 will be assured full consideration. The University of Georgia is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
