Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

Conduct patient triage and evaluation within approved guidelines and scope of practice. Assist nurse(s), physician(s) and other providers in patient examinations, treatments, procedures, and care for patients at Student Health Services General Medicine Clinic, Women's Care and Specialty Clinics. Perform dressing changes, nebulizer treatments and ear irrigations. Administer medications and injections as ordered. Make patient appointments as deemed necessary. Provide administrative support for patients checking in and out and procedures to determine eligibility for service, fees, and community resources. Obtain patient data such as vital signs, health history, chief complaint, routine medications, drug and other noted allergies. Operate and maintain tabletop sterilizer, and run biological indicator test to ensure quality sterilization process of medical instruments. Maintain appropriate inventory of medical supplies.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)

Graduationfromaccreditedtrainingprogram,
orhighschooldiplomaand2yearsrelated
experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Graduation from accredited training program and 1 year experience, or high school diploma and 3 years related experience. Certified Medical Assistant with three years medical experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Ability to administer medications and injections according to physician orders. Ability to perform dressing changes, nebulizer treatments, and ear irrigations. Knowledge of sterilization of instruments and biological testing. Ability to exercise initiative and make independent decisions. Ability to follow standard clinical procedures according to established policies and procedures. Ability to maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards. Ability to communicate effectively through interpersonal skills with patients, medical providers, colleagues and concerned public, Knowledge of HIPPA (confidentiality) guidelines for patient information and records. Knowledge of electronic medical records and appointment systems. Ability to pay attention to detail, maintain high levels of concentration, work under pressure and meet deadlines. Knowledge of community health resources. Knowledge of ethical issues of professional practice of medicine. Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate office procedures. Knowledge of computers and word processing and utilization of fax and copier machines.
