The Site Services Category Manager will develop and lead the planning and execution of the commodity strategy for Boston University’s largest indirect spend areas ($200-250M), which includes broad categories such as office products, furniture/fixtures, MRO, contingent labor, travel, and many others. This role is expected to deliver measurable cost and/or process efficiencies using a disciplined, metrics-driven category planning approach, including strategic sourcing, negotiations, contract enablement, project life-cycle management and vendor management.

This role is expected to develop and foster strategic relationships with key clients and internal/external stakeholders and suppliers to understand and align business strategy, market dynamics, supplier capabilities, and spend analytics to develop robust category plans. This role should have experience with developing and communicating compelling business cases to generate consensus and buy-in for strategic sourcing programs.

The role will directly supervise and develop a staff of two Sourcing Specialists to conduct market research, internal stakeholder needs assessments, and business analyses to identify and execute on cost saving and process efficiency opportunities that consistently deliver value to the Boston University community. This role will work closely with cross-functional project teams, often led by a Sourcing Specialist, to develop and execute on category plan projects that optimize the appropriate balance of cost and quality based on defined business requirements.

Required Skills

B.A./B.S. in Business Administration, Finance, Supply Chain Management, Purchasing or a related field is required. A Master’s degree or above in a related field is preferred, but not required. CPSM certification preferred, but not required. Candidates with a strong project management background may be considered.

Results driven candidate with strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills required with proven project management skills, advanced Microsoft Office skills. Candidate should have at least five to ten years of experience in procurement, commodity management, sales or marketing.

Experience with SAP SRM, Ariba (or other e-procurement tools), travel management, facilities, print, fleet management and contingent workforce management also preferred.
