General Description of Position: This position provides technical support for agronomic research at the Southwest Research-Extension Center located in Garden City, Kansas.  Information about the Department: K-State Research and Extension is a partnership between Kansas State University and federal, state, and county governments. The university actively seeks candidates whose commitments and contributions will advance the University's commitment to the Principles of Community.  Job Description: This position provides technical support for agronomic research at the Southwest Research-Extension Center including site preparation and application of experimental treatments, maintenance of experiments, data collection, and overall station operations.   Required Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma.

One year experience in Ag or Animal Sciences. Education in the Biological Sciences, Ag Sciences, or Animal Sciences may be substituted for experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

CDL. Ability to operate vehicles with standard transmission. Ability to learn quickly how to operate various forms of farm equipment.

Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, in order to interpret precise instructions, procedures, technical plans and designs, and keep research and production records. Ability to drive large and small farm equipment safely and skillfully. Ability to recognize plant diseases and signs of insect infestation. Knowledge of the hazards and effects of pesticides (herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, etc.) and the ability to read and interpret label and MSDS instructions regarding safe and proper use of agricultural chemicals. Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions pertaining to repair, maintenance, and operation of agricultural equipment, vehicles, and power tools. Ability to setup, calibrate, and operate precision agricultural equipment. Ability to use desktop and laptop computers including the use of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).

Certified, or capable and willing to be certified, to apply restricted-use pesticides to crops.

The nature of this job requires good motor skills and physical health. Work requires considerable physical exertion to transport items weighing 50 lbs or more unassisted on a regular basis. The position involves regular use or contact with farm equipment/ machinery and motorized vehicles such as gasoline or diesel tractors (10 to 100 hp), plot-sized combines (20 to 60 hp); pickup trucks; automobiles; plot tillage and planting equipment; chemical application on equipment; stationary threshers; moisture and test-weight meters; seed conditioners and counters, balances; growth chambers and incubators; etc.
