The Online Course Development Specialist serves as a member of the Office of Teaching, Learning and Technology team. This individual provides support services to faculty who are designing their courses for online and hybrid delivery. The Online Course Development Specialist supports faculty in developing courses that adhere to contemporary principles of best practices in course design and to the quality standards established by the College. The Online Course Development Specialist provides faculty with support during the course development process and coordinates the course quality review process. The Online Course Development Specialist works collaboratively with faculty course developers to ensure that newly developed courses, and existing courses going through revision, are of high quality.

Responsibilities include  working collaboratively with faculty to support them in the development of high quality, interactive online courses; facilitating online professional development opportunities for faculty, including the Online Teaching and Learning Workshop; evaluating the quality of online courses in development and providing feedback to faculty course developers to ensure the quality of online courses; assisting faculty with incorporating course data and student feedback to improve course quality; researching and maintaining current knowledge of the latest trends in online curriculum design and how it impacts online learning; supporting the development of innovative instructional strategies in online courses; and, assisting faculty in assembling courses in LMS.

A Master’s degree in educational technology, education, or related field required; 2+ years’ experience in online course development and online teaching; extensive experience with learning management systems (Canvas experience a plus); experience with both Windows and Mac operating systems;  thorough knowledge of current instructional technologies and their application in the online classroom; strong understanding of contemporary instructional design principles, adult learning theory and how they apply to online education;  knowledge of copyright law, universal design, and accessibility standards and how they impact online learning;  ability to manage multiple priorities and successfully complete tasks according to established deadlines;  strong organizational skills and attention to detail; excellent interpersonal, collaboration and teamwork skills; and, strong written and oral communication and presentation skills desired.
