The Instructional Technology Specialist provides support to the campus community in the use of educational technology tools and the College’s Canvas Learning Management System. In addition to training and support for all faculty and staff using the Canvas Learning Management System, this individual facilitates the Digital Learning Orientation course for students, and produces training resources to assist faculty and students in using learning technologies. This individual works closely with the rest of the Teaching, Learning and Technology (TLT) team to ensure that all faculty and student training and support needs are met.

Responsibilities include serving as system administrator for the campus LMS, Canvas; providing a technology orientation for new faculty covering the use of Canvas, Starfish, Insite and other relevant systems; working individually with faculty to help them appropriately utilize technology in their teaching practices and expanding their use of the Canvas system; providing educational technology-related training and ongoing support to faculty; assisting faculty seeking to integrate external tools, such as publisher resources, into their courses in Canvas; assisting faculty in captioning all video and audio material created or utilized by faculty; working with the Director to present workshops to faculty on various academic technology topics; collaborating with the rest of the TLT team to research and recommend technologies for implementation on campus; updating Academic Affairs division content on the College’s website; and, designing and maintaining the TLT department section of the website.

QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelor’s degree in information technology, educational technology or related field; Experience with learning management systems, preferably with an administrator role; knowledge of Canvas a plus; Strong knowledge of best practices and success strategies in online education; extensive technology skills including screencast recording, web-based collaboration tools, and Microsoft Office 365; experience training others in the use of technology tools; excellent interpersonal, collaboration and teamwork skills; and, strong written and oral communication and presentation skills.
