Director of Graduate Studies – Academic Professional
Georgia Tech is seeking an outstanding individual with exceptional academic, strategic, and interpersonal skills to join the Office of the Vice Provost for Graduate Education and Faculty Development (VPGEFD) leadership team as the director of Graduate Studies. This individual will be a thought leader for graduate academic programs, graduate student advocacy, and creating quality student services and admissions and enrollment processes. He or she will also represent the office across the Institute, and with our peer institutions and sponsoring employers and partners.
The Office of Graduate Studies is an administrative office within VPGEFD that provides critical support to almost 13,000 graduate students and to the almost 100 graduate degree programs. The office manages the Institute-level graduate admission and enrollment processes, organizes and hosts graduate student orientation programming, and other scholarly, informative, and networking events; and operates as a clearinghouse for graduate student-related policies, processes, and services.
The director is responsible for the strategic leadership of the Office of Graduate Studies. Duties shall include, but not be limited to: policy development and interpretation; serving as a liaison and advocate for graduate education across campus; developing special projects and initiatives; setting office goals and deciding on organizational structure to meet these goals; supervising a team of 14 graduate studies professionals; and other related duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will be a demonstrated strategic, collaborative, and creative leader who has a minimum of 10 years of experience in higher education administration and graduate education. We are looking for an energetic and responsive team player, with a proven ability to serve as a strategic partner across institutional units and make inclusive and ethical practices a priority. The successful candidate will have strong verbal and written communication skills; the ability to work collaboratively with graduate students, staff, faculty, and senior academic administrators; significant experience with student information systems, admissions processing, and data analysis and reporting; the capability to automate and streamline processes; the ability to review, write, and interpret graduate student-related policies and procedures; an understanding of the graduate studies environment in a research university; the ability to identify, assess, and resolve issues and/or areas of risk; the capability to work with campus offices and constituencies; and the ability to lead and manage staff. Strong experience and demonstrated success in higher education organizational development and team building is a must.
A terminal degree of Ph.D., Ed.D., or other equivalent is required for this non-tenure-track academic faculty position within the job category of Academic Professional (exact rank will depend on the education, experience, and specialization of the selected candidate).
