STEP Coordinator (Grant-Funded)

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field, a minimum of one (1) year experience in program administration/management or grant administration and financial management and the ability to work with diverse student groups required; Master’s degree in education or related field preferred.  This position is grant-funded and requires occasional travel.  Applicants must currently possess or be able to obtain a valid driver’s license at the time of hire and maintain a valid driver’s license throughout the duration of the appointment.  This position requires the ability to flex time and work occasional evening and weekend hours. 


Duties:

This position is responsible for daily oversight of the Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) at MVCC.  STEP is a grant that serves to encourage qualified high school students to consider careers in STEM fields and licensed professions.  Programming includes peer mentoring, tutoring, standardized test preparation, college visits, workshops and educational field trips.

Oversees all activities as outlined in the STEP projects;

Tracks and processes STEP budget transactions including but not limited to purchases and transfers;

Prepares promotional materials and maintains an updated web presence;

Co-Chairs the CSTEP-STEP Advisory Board;

Recruits students for the STEP projects and programs, e.g. summer intensive, by working with high school guidance counselors;

Serves as a liaison between CSTEP-STEP and academic departments at MVCC and area high schools;

 Develops relationships and networks with other CSTEP-STEP projects, school opportunity programs, STEM, health and license professional community organizations;

Researches and develops student internships, and service learning opportunities with local businesses/employers;

Assists students individually or in groups as appropriate;
  
Reviews STEP goals and objectives to ensure all requirements and priorities are met;

Coordinates meetings with STEP Advisors and STEP School Liaisons to work on retention plans for STEP students;

Provides guidance to STEP Advisors and STEP School Liaisons to develop, create and host workshops and presentations;

Meets with STEP Advisors and STEP School Liaisons to assess and monitor student needs and progress;

Keeps appropriate program and student records;

Compiles and analyzes data and prepares reports, including those required by the New York State Department of Education Office;
    
Coordinates informational sessions to create awareness of STEP; and collaborates with program stakeholders to host events;

Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Engagement and Outreach.
