Job Description Summary:

The George Washington University Department of Biochemistry is seeking a School Research Administrator. This position will oversee the pre-award functions for the department and its principal investigators ensuring that all grant proposal submissions are complete and submitted in compliance with internal policies and sponsor guidelines.

These responsibilities will facilitate and support the research and teaching success of the department, its chair, principal investigators and research staff and will advance the department's mission described as follows, "The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine will continue to deliver the highest quality of professional education and training, and conduct cutting-edge research at the GW School of Medicine, and achieve the status of a premier biomedical research and education center in the nation."

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Oversees the pre-award functions of the department to include developing a plan with PIs to prepare required grant proposal application elements, facilitating the routing and approval process for all submissions, identifying terms and conditions presented during pre-award development that require additional input or authorization (cost-sharing, animal or human research approvals, intellectual property) preparing standard proposal documents by drafting budgets that are in compliance with University and sponsor policies and serving as the liaison to the central sponsored research administration department.

Assists in post-award administration of the department's sponsored projects, including preparing JIT and progress report correspondence, facilitating reimbursements, purchase orders, service agreements, invoice payments, p-card activities, monitoring expenditures and preparing financial reports.

Trains new department administrative staff and research staff in university procedures and protocols in all functional areas including sponsored award proposal submission process, procurement, and reporting requirements.

Initiates labor redistributions and EPAFs to ensure that research staff have been correctly charged to internal and external funding sources; prepares salary projections and financial reports at the request of the manager of finance and administration and assists with semi-annual effort reporting activities.

Maintains current knowledge of developments in sponsored project administration by attending training and university peer knowledge-sharing group meetings.

Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Experience with Banner, Cayuse, procurement and budgeting in an academic setting
Proficiency with personal computers to include spreadsheet and word processing applications is necessary.
Ability to work under own initiative, under pressure to meet deadlines and to be able to prioritize multiple tasks and demands.
Strong communication, organizational, customer service and interpersonal skills are necessary.
