I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

In support of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) academic mission the W. Scott Amey Career Service Center provides professional development services, including career guidance to current SEAS students and recent alumni in areas of resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn profile preparation, as well as interviewing skills, job market information, and job success practices. In addition to providing comprehensive career-related resources, the Center facilitates a professional development curriculum aimed at ensuring SEAS students are prepared to explore and pursue a range of employment options.

Under leadership of the Director, Graduate Career Services, the Senior Career Counselor will support SEAS by providing high quality customer service to meet the career management needs of SEAS students.

The position manages four important areas related to Graduate Career Services with minimal supervision; Career Development Curriculum and Advising, Strategy and Management, Advocacy and Metrics, Communication and Events, and Support of Central Offices.

The Senior Career Counselor's responsibilities include:

Develops and manages major joint Career Programming for the entire SEAS population ranging in size and scope (e.g. professional development workshops, one-on-one appointments alumni and employer networking events, international student events).

Fosters meaningful partnerships with Career Services professionals to align career curriculum and events with market trends, particularly building strong working relationship with the Assistant Vice Provost of Career Services, the Managing Director of Curricular and Strategic Initiatives, Director of the International Services Office (ISO), members of the Committee for International Student Success, Employer Relations, Development, Alumni Relations and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) coaches, SEAS Office of Graduate Admissions, and SEAS alumni.

Conducts statistical analysis to measure and predict future outcomes; uses student assessment surveys for qualitative and quantitative data.

Manages student programming budget, including proper procurement and allocation of all expenses

Manages all day-to-day programmatic tasks, marketing initiatives, social media platforms, events, program budget and time sheets.

Performs other work related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in Career Development and/or student advising in a STEM related field.

Entrepreneurial spirit, strong attention to detail, patience, excellent interpersonal and intercultural skills, and the ability to work both independently and in a team are musts.

International student advising a plus.

Demonstrates successful liasing between multiple parties in an academic environment. Data and results driven.

Experience in teaching, advising, or public presenting.

Knowledge of Knowledge of Handshake or other Career Services CRM, Google Documents and social media sites.

Knowledgeable of GW Career Services strongly preferred.
