Primary Function of Organization Unit: The mission of the Cellular and Molecular Imaging Facility (CMIF) is to provide access to advanced imaging equipment that enhances the research and teaching environment of NC State. CMIF primarily serves the NC State community but is also open to scientists from other universities and local companies. The facility contains a number of state-of-the-art light microscopes, including Zeiss LSM 880 + Airyscan and Zeiss LSM 710 confocal systems and a Zeiss Z.1 lightsheet confocal.

Essential Job Duties: The CMIF Research Associate collaborates with the Director in support of the overall operation and direction of the Cellular and Molecular Imaging Facility (CMIF) by providing expert-level guidance to customers regarding experimental design and data interpretation, as well as new technologies that may be of benefit to their research programs. The Research Associate is responsible for maintenance and operation of facility equipment, training of faculty, staff and students in advanced light optical methods, serving as an expert resource for research utilizing CMIF facilities, and collaborating with the Director in the preparation of grant proposals, research projects, and in the development of new optical methods that serve to enhance overall imaging capabilities at NC State. The duties of the Research Associate include but are not limited to: * Serving as a source of consultation for other scientists and researchers (externally and across campus) * Working closely with researchers and potential users of the CMIF to assist in scheduling, training and other key operational functions of CMIF * Providing oversight, development, and monitoring the integrity of data collection * Assisting in obtaining external research funding * Partnering with the Director to develop new/novel techniques * Designing and applying scientific and numerical models

Minimum Education/Experience: -Master's degree in a related scientific field -Demonstrated experience with advanced optical microscopes such as confocal laser scanning systems -At least three years of hands-on experience utilizing confocal microscopes -Significant experience training others on the use of scientific equipment

Department Required Skills: -Familiarity with advanced data processing packages, such as MetaMorph, Imaris or ImageJ -Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal -Ability to assimilate new equipment and processes quickly, and to make recommendations for the development of new processes as needed

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: -PhD in a relevant field, with experience in a confocal microscopy facility -Prefer five or more years of related experience
