ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT, ANTHROPOLOGY
Duties: Anthropology is the study of humans, past and present. In the Penn Anthropology Department, our individual research topics engage a range of contemporary issues, including corporations and finance, media and communication, migration and demographics, science and technology, health and environment, heritage and identity, race and gender, violence and social control, poverty and rights, and political and economic development. This research informs the courses we teach. Anthropology is the involved social science. It is scientifically rooted and actively engaged. It moves with the times. It makes a difference.
The Administrative Assistant to the department, under limited supervision, provides administrative support to faculty and staff of the Department of Anthropology. This is a varied and active position responsible for daily receptionist and mail distribution duties as well as managing common spaces and equipment. Other responsibilities include assisting with the Department's colloquium series and other events, making purchases and payments, posting news and informational updates on the Department's website and social media, and assisting with various administrative tasks such as copying, proofing, and otherwise preparing documents.
Qualifications: A High School Diploma or GED and 3 years to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with basic software and web-applications including the Microsoft Office Suite. Self-motivation and ability to multitask are essential, as are excellent written and verbal communication skills and customer service.
