General

Serve as DOCR technical lead for PACE honest broker services. Advise teams looking to export data from the protested computing environment on methods for de-identification. Additionally, provide data management, cleaning, de-identification, and validation services to investigators and teams working in, or outside of, PACE. Serve as liaison between the Office of Research Informatics (ORI) and DOCR for project collaborations around PACE, data marts, and other large data projects. Assess and evaluate solutions to complex problems with minimum supervision. Collaborate with study teams, project team leaders, application developers and other groups across Duke. Assign and oversee work as needed for other people serving as honest brokers for PACE. Provide advanced technical support to clients and RMT data team. Coordinate subject matter expertise for Honest Broker activities for training team.

This position will report directly to the Associate Director, Research Data Team (AD).

Essential Duties

1. Serve as technical lead for honest broker services from PACE. This role is a neutral third party to collect and de-identify data on behalf of the investigative team. Complete required training and Duke certification for honest brokers. In collaboration with other central support offices, such as the IRB, DHTS, and ORI, develop and oversee policies and processes for de-identification of data. Evaluate current processes and develop plans for improvements. Develop internal SOPs and external policies. Provide regular status reports to the Associate Director and other DOCR leadership, as needed.

2. Working with statisticians and study teams, provide data management, cleaning, de-identification, and validation services.

3. Provide as a subject matter expert in data management, cleaning, and de-identification techniques and regulations. Consult with study teams and other across the institution, providing one-on-one, and small group, instruction both in person and over email or telephone. Provide at the elbow support as needed. Develop and conduct formal trainings, workshops, and presentations as requested.

4. Serve as liaison between ORI, ACE, and DOCR around PACE and other data projects. Escalate issues, concerns and barriers to manager and DOCR leadership. Assist and, as assigned, lead the prioritization of tasks/assignments. Develop and implement communication plans to all stakeholder groups and manages customer and stakeholder expectations. Help to automate processes and create new processes/procedures.

5. Serve as an additional advanced technical lead for the RMT data team on data management and cleaning projects. Train and onboard new DOCR analysts, in collaboration with their manager and the Associate Director for the team.

6. Attend weekly RMT data team meetings, monthly DOCR staff meetings, and other regular meetings around PACE and data projects as they are established.

7. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Minimum Qualifications
Education/Training Requirements

Work requires a Bachelor's in Computer Science or equivalent technical training, or non-technical Bachelor's and 4 years of relevant work experience.

Experience
  • 4 years data management, research, or medical experience required
  • Previous experience in statistical and procedural programming is required
  • Previous experience designing, authoring and maintaining multi-platform job-based workflows is preferred.
