Job Summary: Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant invites applications for a full-time, 12 month, fixed-term appointment non-tenured Public Service Assistant faculty position. This position is for a Hatchery Manager at the shellfish at the Shellfish Research Laboratory with the University of Georgia in Savannah, Georgia. As a research hatchery facility, an understanding of shellfish aquaculture needs is required. The incumbent is responsible for overseeing the rearing of all life stages of shellfish. This position requires strong interpersonal skills with positive and constructive personnel management. The incumbent will interact regularly with other facility staff, students, researchers, and other agencies and collaborators. As a research facility, the incumbent should have an understanding of the scientific methods concerning discovery and experimental research to participate in discussions on experimental design. The incumbent is responsible for overseeing the shellfish hatchery, which includes general maintenance, and interacting with private, state, and federal agency organizations. This hatchery manager/researcher in addition to hatchery responsibilities, is expected to assist in the obtaining extramural funding, produce extension and scientific publications, and give scientific presentations. Minimum Qualifications:  A Masters of Science (MS) degree in marine science, fisheries, natural resources, or related field in which research is being conducted  3 years experience operating a shellfish hatchery, specifically with eastern oyster hatchery techniques in coastal Georgia  Effective verbal/written communication skills  Critical thinking, problem solving, and analytical skills  Ability to work independently and as a productive, reliable team player

Preferred Qualifications:  10 years experience with aquaculture  5 years experience with shellfish aquaculture in Georgia  Familiarity with Georgia's estuaries and tidal variation  Experience operating small boats (< 24fth) in all conditions  Experience towing boats and trailers  Ability to lift heavy equipment (50+ lbs)
