The Facilities Department at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire a Facilities Maintenance Technician I - Paint Technician I to join our team. ** POSITION TO START ON OR AFTER 09/01/2017 **Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: * Determines sequence of paint operations and methods to be used including need or advisability for scaffolding and rigging, color blending and matching required, time allowance between coats, order of application and number required, type and amount of materials needed, and areas to be painted according to specifications, blueprints, and sketches, written or verbal instructions, and trade practice. * Sets up for job by mixing, blending, and matching paint to proper color and consistency as required and when necessary, directing the erection of scaffolding and rigging. * Performs such typical operations as applying decorative and/or protective finish coats to such items as office furniture (as desks, chairs, tables, cabinets, picture frames, blackboards, and Venetian blinds), office interiors, rolling stock, etc. Rubs down and mirror finishes office furniture. Applies trim to office interiors using a trim brush. * Performs painting, applying prime or finish coats, on exteriors and interiors which require working from scaffolding. The successful candidate will possess a High school diploma/GED equivalent and one year experience in related maintenance/repair field. Substitution of education for experience allowed. The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required:* Knowledge of and skill in use of standard tools, equipment, materials, methods, and practices of general maintenance task.* Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of general maintenance.* Knowledge of blueprints, schematics, and working drawings.* Ability to use basic shop math applications.* Ability to locate and identify problems in appropriate building system or equipment and to plan and execute necessary repairs.* Physical ability to perform moderately heavy physical work which includes lifting and crawling, and to remain outdoors in inclement weather.* Knowledge of appropriate safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.* Valid driver's license and ability to drive a vehicle, and maintain coverage under University auto insurance policy, if required to drive University vehicles.
