Wireless Communication Postdoctoral Researcher, Computer Science & Engineering – Requisition # 170000012B
The postdoctoral position in the area of Wireless Communications at the Smart Communications and Analysis Lab (SCAL) and Urban Science and Technology (Urban S&T) Program at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga (UTC) will be responsible for research in advanced communication and smart cities by bringing fresh ideas and being mostly responsible for research. SCAL and the Urban S&T Programs are closely affiliated with the UTC SimCenter, a key interdisciplinary R&D center on campus where the scholar will be housed and mentored. SimCenter is a leading modeling, computation, and simulation center on campus. Novel and exciting research projects in the areas of Transportation, Health, and Energy are being conducted in our laboratory that are funded by federal agencies (NSF and NIH), the state of Tennessee, and by industry. The successful postdoctoral scholar will have the opportunity to contribute to and advance these projects in real-world settings through our close collaboration with the Chattanooga smart-city community.
Candidates will investigate fundamentals, algorithm design and evaluation for advanced wireless communications. We strongly encourage candidates who have already shown exceptional early career promise and whose work will contribute to one or more of these research areas: 5G, Wireless Networks, Content-centric Networking, Mobile Edge Computing, Cognitive Radio, and Cooperative Communications. Additional responsibilities include:
- Research in the areas of Advanced Communications and Smart Cities
- Contributing to the ongoing projects in the areas mentioned above
- Writing papers and technical reports in the areas mentioned above
- Helping with identifying funding resources and contributing to proposal preparation
- Supervising graduate and undergraduate students in Dr. Sartipi's research group. Dr. Sartipi will also supervise the students.
Candidates must possess an earned PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering. Must have knowledge of wireless communications; related publications in prestigious journals/ proceedings; strong verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, programming skills, and analytical skills. Must be able to supervise students. Knowledge of smart cities, data science, and proposal writing is preferred. Experience working in a team and advising students is preferred. Occasional evenings and weekends work required; occasional overnight travel required.
