The Data Insights team at Stanford GSB is driving the strategic initiative of enabling a culture of data driven decision making. We're looking to augment our analytics capabilities by hiring a strong hands-on engineer with significant experience in analytics. As the ideal candidate for a small team, we'll ask a lot of you. You have an engineering mindset with deep interest for the intricacies of data and its power to influence decisions. You're experienced in handling user expectations and challenging assumptions. You've thrived in environments with shifting priorities. You learn quickly. You're comfortable handling multiple time zones. Above all, you have an enterprise problem solving DNA that always seeks the big picture.

Techwise, you're experienced in multiple BI and dashboarding tools - Tableau, Google Data Studio, Looker, Domo etc. You're also thoroughly experienced in various forms of SQL as well as types and stores of data - relational, warehouses, big data, unstructured and more. You've worked in one or more of these analytics verticals - marketing, communications/media, learning, operational. Experience in these technical skills a significant plus - statistical programming, machine learning.

Job Purpose:

Responsible for development of technical analysis and design, new programming, modifications, scheduling, tuning, testing and maintenance of systems in support of new and existing Business Intelligence (BI) and other projects.

Core Duties:

Consult with clients to assess user needs and requirements. Guide users towards solutions of most analytical and strategic value.

Perform data analysis, design and development of new and ongoing business intelligence (BI) tools involving complex EDW structures OR on OLTP systems.

Provide technical design, coding, testing, implementation, maintenance, system and technical support for BI initiatives.

Meticulously build BI applications following defined software methodologies and project management processes.

Collaborate closely with technical leaders on overall BI architecture, roadmap and implementation.

Monitor deployed systems and processes, pro-actively fix issues as found. Support performance of systems.

Architect full solutions and take ownership as SME and Technical lead for on-going support and projects as assigned.

Contribute to data analysis, design and development of new and ongoing business intelligence (BI) projects.

Monitor industry for emerging technologies and trends; provide appropriate recommendations to team and leadership.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Solid understanding of software engineering principles. Experience with Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) process and project management methodologies.

Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Experienced in defining and solving logical problems with right technical solutions.

Deep understanding of BI, data warehousing concepts and methodologies, analytics, dashboarding.

Strong programming skills, with expertise in databases - SQL, all major forms of data stores (warehouses, relational, unstructured, big data etc).

Expertise, experience in dashboarding and reporting technologies - Tableau, Google Data Studio, OBIEE, Qlikview, Looker, Domo etc.

Experience in R a plus.

Experience in D3 a plus.

Self motivated, comfortable with continuously learning, need minimal oversight, experienced working with distributed teams.

Minimum Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience in computer science, or engineering or a combination of education and relevant experience.

Physical Requirements:

Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.

Frequently sitting.

Occasionally stand/walk.

Rarely writing by hand; lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
