The Student Life & Leadership Assistant performs complex and detailed clerical work related to the planning and implementation of community college student activities programs. Reporting to the Director of Student Development, the Student Life & Leadership Assistant assists in the planning of services, such as student government participant recruitment, orientation, special events, tours, and individual and specialized student programs. Public contact is extensive, and involves students, college and District staff, faculty, vendors, other educational institutions, business and community representatives for the purpose of exchanging program information and services. A moderate to high degree of independent judgment and creativity are required to adequately represent the college and student activities program, to assist in the design of program components and services, and to resolve frequent minor and occasional major problems that arise. Consequences of errors in judgment could be costly in public relations and employee time; however supervisory controls limit the risk of serious consequences. The Student Life & Leadership Assistant can train and lead the work of volunteers and student assistants as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• A combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in organizational development, business administration, sociology, human resources, or a closely related field
• Successful related experience of increasing responsibility
• Extensive public contact experience with people of diverse cultures, language groups and abilities
• Experience with program planning, implementation and evaluation
• Experience with training and leading the work of others
• Demonstrated skill in oral communication, including public speaking
• Demonstrated skill in written communication
• Experience with the use of a variety of computer software to compose and prepare correspondence, reports, presentations, and other written materials
• Experience with researching, formatting, assessing and preparing data for reports and other materials
• Demonstrated skill in working as part of a customer service team

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Knowledge of college programs and services available to student and other potential participants
2. Knowledge of applicable and available community, business, governmental and educational resources
3. Skill in use of the Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, and web-based content management systems
4. Skill in sensitive, respectful, and effective communication with people who are diverse in their cultures, language groups and abilities
5. Skill in short and long range program and event planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation
6. Skill in interviewing, assessment, and evaluation
7. Skill in oral communication, including public speaking
8. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective and efficient working relationships
9. Skill in written communication
10. Skill in training and leading the work of others, including individual, small, and large group interaction
11. Skill in research, compiling and formatting a variety of data for reports; data analysis and comparison with attention to detail
12. Ability to use tact and discretion in handling confidential information

14. Ability to multitask, prioritize, adapt, and work in a flexible environment

Preferred Qualifications: Bilingual proficiency is highly desirable, but not required.
