Savannah State University seeks qualified applicants for Assistant Professor Music/Assistant Director of University Bands.  This tenure-track Assistant Professor position assists the Band Director with rehearsals and performances.  Teaches undergraduate courses in music concentration   of the Visual and Performing Arts Program, as well as the general education core. This position has a 3-3 workload.  Teaching responsibilities include but are not limited to Music Appreciation, Music History, Instrumental Methods/ Pedagogy, Applied instrument and Music theory.  Supports the Band Director with developing recruitment strategies and travel.  Employee may be directed to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically delineated in this description.

 

MME, MFA, or MM with concentration in applied music or performance.  Previous instructional experience required; evidence of effective university teaching experience preferred.  Ability to rehearse and conduct Symphonic, Jazz, and Marching Bands; with specialty in brass preferred.  Evidence of background in Jazz Band conducting and/or performance; drill writing and traditional marching band show preparation and prior experience as a collegiate assistant director of bands preferred.  Background and/or credit check may be required.
