Position Summary: Position Summary: The part time DegreeWorks Academic Advisor works in support of the Freshmen Advising Program and other centralized academic advising initiatives to help ensure the delivery of quality academic advising services. The position is also responsible for maintaining academic plans for degree completion in the degree audit and educational planning tool, Ellucian DegreeWorks. Seasonal evening hours are required to support some academic advising programs.
Essential Duties: Core Duties: 1. Serve as an academic advisor for a roster that may include students with undeclared majors, first year students, students placed on academic probation, those readmitted to the university, international exchange and transfer students. 2. Assist undergraduate students with academic planning for degree completion; provide ongoing academic counseling and make referrals to appropriate resources and services on campus to support their overall success. 3. Manage the ongoing maintenance of academic plans for degree completion in the degree audit and educational planning tool, Ellucian DegreeWorks; monitor curriculum changes and collaborate with the Registrar's Office and academic department chairs to confirm the accuracy of information contained in each academic plan. 4. Facilitate staff and faculty advisor training sessions for all components of the DegreeWorks degree audit and educational planning tool. 5. Monitor trends in social media and appropriately apply that knowledge to increase the use of social media within the Freshman Advising Program. 6. Assists with preparation for freshmen orientation programming, including screening and placement, orientation leader training, faculty advisor training. 7. Undertakes research and program development related to advising and first year programs, as assigned. 8. Provide academic counseling and conduct exit interviews for students seeking withdrawal from the University. 9. Participate in academic advising meetings and assist with the overall planning and delivery of programming. 10. Serve as an advising liaison to a specified College at the University. 11. Functions as a team member of the Academic Achievement Center staff in the development and implementation of processes necessary to accomplish the goals and philosophy of the department and the University. 12. Carries out other professional tasks as assigned
Required Qualifications: 1. Minimum requirement of a Master's Degree in student personnel, counseling or other closely related degree. 2. A minimum of 2-3 years of related experience is required, especially in the areas of academic advising, college teaching and/or delivery of academic support services in a higher education setting. 3. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication and organizational skills. 4. Knowledge of higher education principles, practices, and procedures is required. 5. Demonstrated experience using student information systems and other technological tools. 6. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with administrative and academic departments. 7. Demonstrated ability to work in stressful situations required. Position requires sensitivity to human concerns, flexibility, patience, professional integrity and a concern for student needs in a demanding academic context.
Preferred Qualifications: 1. Ability to implement technological solutions in the delivery of academic advising services is critically important. 2. Experience with the Ellucian DegreeWorks tool.
