The Robert B. Greenblatt, M.D. Library of Augusta University invites applications for the position of Clinical Information Librarian. The primary focus of this non-tenure track faculty position is to support Augusta University’s clinical and educational mission through planning, development, delivery and evaluation of quality health information and instruction.
The Clinical Information Librarian participates in the departmental strategic planning process and serves as the embedded librarian to the Augusta University Health System and the Medical College of Georgia.
The Clinical Information Librarian provides library education and information services for clinical and educational clientele in a technically sophisticated environment. This includes: Development of goals and priorities based upon the strategic plan of the Library, Hospital System, and University; development of new programs; continuing assessment of programs; proactive quality service to clientele; and keeping informed of library, campus and university system¿wide issues.
Specifically, the Clinical Information Librarian
- Serves as the embedded librarian to Augusta University Health and the clinical community.
- Serves as an embedded librarian for the Medical College of Georgia.
- Develops programs to meet the clinical needs of Augusta University Health residents, clinicians and faculty.
- Works with third and fourth year students in the clinical setting to teach hands on use of library resources.
- Facilitates evidence based practice among Augusta University Health System.
- Develops and teaches instructional sessions for clinical groups.
- Develops and teaches instructional sessions for first and second year medical students.
- Collaborates with Research & Education Services in the delivery of other instruction and reference services.
- Participates in clinical rounds and morning reports.
- Assists with other projects as assigned.
The Clinical Information Librarian serves as liaison to various Augusta University and Augusta University Health educational, accrediting, faculty and other committees to fulfill responsibilities as a faculty member.
The Clinical Information Librarian is active professionally in local, regional, and national professional associations and contributes to the professional literature.
- Master’s degree in library science from an ALA accredited institution
- Experience in a health sciences library or other health sciences environment
- Advanced knowledge and experience with current resources, vocabularies and research techniques in the biomedical sciences, specifically Evidence-Based Medicine tenets and teaching methodologies
- Collaborative planning and problem solving abilities; ability to implement and manage programs and projects
- Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong customer service skills and abilities, especially an outgoing, entrepreneurial, client-centered focus
- Evidence of ability to meet university standards in librarianship, teaching, publication and research, and service commensurate with faculty status
Additional Desirable Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years relevant professional experience
- Familiarity with the academic health system and medical education environments
- Experience working with clinicians, clinical faculty and students
- Professional experience in health science librarianship or health sciences profession
- Subject background in the health or life sciences, or in information technology
- Experience in initiating creative and innovative information services programs
- Experience with performing in-depth literature reviews including, but not limited to systematic reviews
- Experience with LibGuides or other tools for developing online research guides
- Pursuit of membership in the Academy of Health Information Professionals
- Experience in grant writing
- Knowledge of best practices and emerging trends for instruction
